Pomegranate, a symbol of life and good fortune

From the time of gods and myths ...
... until today, the pomegranate remains unchanged.

In Ancient Greece, the pomegranate was the emblem of Hera, Demeter and Persephone.

In Thesmophoria, a festival in honor of Demeter, Greek women used to eat the little shinny pomegranate seeds to enhance their fertility and well-being. Hera, the mother of Gods, who was considered to be the protector of marriage and fertility, holds a pomegranate in her right hand. However, Aphrodite was also related with the pomegranate, since, according to the myth, it was Aphrodite herself who planted the first pomegranate tree in Cyprus. Therefore, pomegranates have been related with beauty and love.

However, more than any other of the Gods, the myth of pomegranates embraces Persephone with a great story regarding the battle between light and dark, and the everlasting change of the seasons.

Pomegranate is a particularly nutritious fruit, low in calories and high in therapeutical value.

Pomegranates are rich in Vitamins A, C, E, folic acid, iron, potassium and fibres.

Pomegranates reinforce the immune system and protect the human body from various serious diseases.

They have hypoallergenic action.

They protect kidney and liver function.

They have strong anti-ageing action against free radicals accumulated to the cells.

Its’ seeds are used in salads, adding exceptional freshness and flavour.

We may also enjoy them fresh or in juice.

Pomegranate trees start blooming in April and may last even until the end of the summer. The best seeds come from early flowers. Summer rains also give many fruits which are, however, softer and more difficult to preserve.

Long hours of sunlight, rainfed crops and warm temperature help in harvesting pomegranates of the highest quality and flavour.

Unlike this, the many summer rains give many fruits, but soft and with problems at maintenance.

Our homeland is amongst the best areas for pomegranate cultivation.

Our crops are conventional; as a fertilizer we use compost from selected farms for animal breeding. Our fruits are never stored in refrigerators.
